Open Full-Full Lexicon of English

The Open Full-Full Lexicon of English (OFFLE) is, as the name indicates, a freely available lexicon for the English language, with citation forms as well as all inflected forms for these. OFFLE is the English part of the Open Source Lexical Information Network (OSLIN).

The original source of the list of words, as well as the major part of the semantic definitions, is based on the Open Plain Text English Dictionary (OPTED), which in turn is based on the Project Gutenberg Etext of Webster's Unabridged Dictionary (see Project Gutenberg), which in turn is based on the 1913 US Webster's Unabridged Dictionary.

Currently, OFFLE contains about 120.000 words, and 250.000 inflected forms. OFFLE is maintained at the Institut Universitari de Lingüística Aplicada (IULA) at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona, and new words from various sources are costantly being added.

The complete OFFLE database can either be searched online here, or be downloaded as either an XML file, a simple list of lemmas, or a text file in treetagger format.

OFFLE ain't awful!
